This Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 16520 from 1997 represents one of the most important chapters in modern Rolex history. Known among collectors as the Zenith Daytona, this reference marks the moment when Rolex introduced an automatic chronograph to the Daytona line for the first time.

Before this model, the Daytona was powered exclusively by manual wind movements. Rolex chose the legendary Zenith El Primero as the base for its new calibre, heavily modifying it to meet Rolex standards for reliability and longevity. The result was the calibre 4030, a slower beating, more robust evolution of one of the most celebrated chronograph movements ever made. This decision created a short but iconic production era that today stands apart from both earlier manual Daytonas and later in house ceramic models.

The white dial variant adds an extra layer of desirability. Its crisp contrast, balanced sub dials and clean layout have made it one of the most recognisable and timeless Daytona configurations. Over the years, this dial has become a cornerstone of serious Rolex collections.

This example is a T serial from 1996 and presents in very good condition. The watch has been serviced and lightly polished, resulting in a fresh and well preserved appearance while retaining its classic character. A beautiful and historically important Daytona that captures the essence of Rolex evolution.
