Here’s a grail-level piece for the Royal Oak enthusiast: the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 14790BA MK1 from 1989, a rare and early example of the iconic 36mm reference, crafted entirely in 18k yellow gold and fitted with a rich grey tapisserie dial.

This C-series MK1 example retains the original Gay Frères-made bracelet, stamped “E” for 1989 production, and features all the hallmarks of the earliest 14790s: a classically balanced case, sharply faceted octagonal bezel, and the vintage deep grey dial with petite tapisserie texture and long AP logo placement at 12 o'clock. The dial shows no major flaws, with applied gold hour markers and tritium lume plots that have aged to a warm, even patina.

Powering the watch is the AP Caliber 2225, an ultra-thin automatic movement based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre 889, delivering smooth performance and quiet prestige. This movement, together with the perfectly sized 36mm case, represents the sweet spot for daily wearers and collectors alike, especially in precious metal.

Condition: Very good overall. Case remains strong with light signs of wear, bezel edges retain their original definition. Dial is clean and attractive with even aging. Bracelet is original and tight, stamped for 1989.

An incredibly refined and collectible reference from the golden age of the Royal Oak, a piece that embodies Gerald Genta’s design language in full precious metal form. With only about 70 pieces made of the first batch in this dial this is a super rare oppertunity to own a piece of watch history!
